About BusConnects

BusConnects is a city shaping mega project that will significantly improve public transport, cycling and pedestrian infrastructure across Greater Dublin.

BusConnects will deliver reliable and more frequent bus services across 12 new corridors across the city, which will include the construction of 230 kilometres of bus corridors and 200 kilometres of cycle lanes.

NTA will kick start construction across two schemes from mid-2025, with Ballymun/Finglas and Liffey Valley to City Centre to be the first schemes to begin construction.

BusConnects will drive positive change in our streets and suburbs by building the infrastructure Dublin needs to improve journey times, improve cycling and pedestrian facilities and make our growing city a better place to live and work.

Liffey Valley to City Centre

The Liffey Valley to City Centre scheme is the first of twelve Core Bus Corridors to begin construction in the Greater Dublin Area as a part of the BusConnects project. The scheme totals in 18.4 kilometres of bus corridors in both directions, aiming to include provision of necessary bus, cycle, and walking infrastructure enhancements.

The scheme begins at Fonthill Road, tying into the new Liffey Valley Shopping Centre bus interchange. From there, the route will continue south towards Coldcut road, through Ballyfermot village and onto Sarsfield Road. The scheme then continues through Grattan Crescent, Emmet Road, and James’s Street before reaching Thomas Street and High Street. From High Street, it will join the existing city centre traffic system.

Construction Stage

The planned roll out of construction work for the Liffey Valley to City Centre BusConnects Scheme has been confirmed by National Transport Authority (NTA). The plans which are subject to potential changes comes after extensive planning with the contractor delivering the Scheme, GMC Group. Commencing in December 2025 in Liffey Valley, the works will continue for around three years and due to conclude in early 2028. The works have been planned to ensure that construction moves up and down the corridor to minimise and mitigate the impact of construction on the community.

Types of works will include but are not limited to road works (including road widening), installation of critical infrastructure, drainage upgrades, public lighting installation and improvements to the urban realm, including new landscaping. All planned works will be communicated in detail to impacted residents and stakeholders, with updates provided on this website.
